ODBC Error

Does anyone have idea on how to reslove this error message
below.
Error Source 4, code 01000 10054
[microsoft][ODBC SQL SERVER Driver] [ TCP/IP Sockets]
ConnectionRead (recv())
Hello!
This could be due to multiple reasons. Can you locate the ERRORLOG.* files
(found in the LOG sub-folder under the SQL Server installation folder) and
send it across? That might help establish if anything's wrong on the server
side.
Also:
- do you get this issue from all clients or is it specific to a set of
client(s)?
- do you receive this issue only when running a specific query? what are you
trying to execute when you experience this issue?
- are the client and server separated by any kind of network equipment like
a router / firewall?
- will the issue occur if you run the query locally on the server?

I am currently using ORACLE 9i but I am trying to move to SQL server.
Below is my code, I am getting very strenge error, I can retrieve all the
data from database, but when I do .Edit(), the code crashes. Eventhough, I
am opening the recordset dynaset, it still does not let me edit the
recordset. I have SQL server(8.00.194), MDAC(2.71.9030.0), ODBC32.dll(
version 3.520.9030.0). Is my ODBC drive old?

Your SQL Server version is the SQL 8.0 RTM version. I beleive the latest is
SP4, so you could try a newer one. Try

You could also try doing a search on http://msdn.microsoft.com/ using
keywords "ODBC MFC". Perhaps there is some difference between Oracle and
SQL that doesn't allow this query.

ODBC Call Fail/Record locked

I have recently moved some native Access tables to SQL Server 7. These tables are updated in code. When the update is done via a SQL statement, I get
"This record is being modified by another user. . . Save, Copy to Clipboard, Drop Changes"

When the record is being updated via DAO code, I get,
"ODBC Call Fail"

Both errors are most irritating and I desperately need to find a way around this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

object and others are updated using DAO.
When I update using SQL, I get "This record is being

When I update using DAO, the code crashes on the .Update
command and says, "ODBC call fail."
I can update the tables manually without error.
Is there a way to fix this? What am I doing wrong in the

You should seriously consider getting rid of all DAO code that
performs DML against SQL Server tables. It's the slowest, buggiest,
and least-efficient way of performing any task. The reason is that you
are invoking an instance of the Jet engine on every call. The result
is that the call goes through Jet-ODBC-SQL Server. However, if you use
SQL statements in a pass-through query, the statement is passed
directly to SQL Server, where it is executed on the server. This
results in faster, more efficient transactions. Pass-through queries
also give you the capability of calling stored procedures, and can be
used as the basis of reports. If you must use recordsets for some
reason, use ADO, not DAO when going against SQL Server data.

Properties in the Enterprise Manager.
I have 25 servers and I wonder if I can get that information by a
Transact.SQL Server script. I try to do that and I got some information but
other like autentication mode, startup service account, audit level I can′t

Obscuring T-SQL code from RDL File and SQL Server

I would like to write some reports that will query T-SQL for information, but
I don't what anyone to be able to see the T-SQL code. So I can not store the
T-SQLin the RDL file, or put it in a SP. Also can't even use and encrypted
SP because someone would have to have the source code to create the T-SQL.
So what options are available to hide the T-SQL code, but not allow anyone to

As far as I know, there is not really much else that can be done to
restrict access to the T-SQL or stored procedure(s). Sorry that I
could not be of further assistance.

potentially this might work. Don't suppose you know how to create a piece of
compiled code that can be used as a data source to a reporting services
report.
